One Man Can Make a Difference South Miami-Dade · Florida

South Miami-Dade County, Florida

A meal.A mentor.A world of possibility.

One Man Can Make a Difference walks alongside children and families in Florida City, Goulds, Perrine and South Miami — with food on the table, a steady adult in the room, and a wider view of what a life can hold.

Four neighborhoods. One long commitment.

Our conviction

A child who is fed, known and believed in begins to picture a different future.

Our work is to make that ordinary. Not one bright afternoon, but meal after meal, homework page after homework page, season after season — long enough for a young person to feel it in their own name.

Dignity first. Need is not a performance. Food and clothing are offered the way you would offer them to your own family: plainly, warmly, with dignity and respect.

Belonging, then ambition. A young person has to feel held before they will risk reaching. So we build the room first — the familiar faces, the steady encouragement — and then we widen the horizon.

What we do

Three threads, one braided promise.

01 · Learning

Homework help that never runs out of patience

Tutoring for elementary, middle and high school students — reading, math, assignments, study habits — plus college preparation that treats the application as a skill to be learned, not a lottery to be entered.

02 · Belonging

A community that knows your name

Mentors who keep showing up. Meals and clothing shared without spectacle. Professionals from the community who sit down with young people and make an unfamiliar career suddenly look reachable.

03 · Room to run

Joy is not the extra. It is the point.

Flag football, basketball, soccer, swimming, skating and bowling. Picnics with families. Field trips to the zoo, to amusement parks, to local entertainment — days that stay with a child for years.

Our story

A short film about the work — and the why.

Watch it with sound, on your own time. Nothing on this site plays audio at you.

The film is illustrative. It expresses the spirit of the work and does not depict actual program participants, staff or events.

One person, showing up again, changes what a child expects of the world.
